Should I Go with Godaddy Website or Go Custom?
This question gets asked a lot! I hear it all of the time from those who know I design websites and those who do not. My answer is what do you intend to do with your website and who do you want to attract? If you don’t know those answers then we need to work on a marketing plan for you. Based on what your answer is might be the answer to the first question. In this video I discuss the differences between renting a website [Godaddy.com] vs. owning one. Just like renting an apartment vs. owning a home, there are certain standards you have to adhere to in a rent situation that you have more say so in an ownership one.

Hey Chris, I was hoping you could give me some knowledge on exactly how to own “My Own” website. I recently went with a hosting site (free servers.com), that was a freaking nightmare! I checked out go daddy and looked them up on youtube, and thats when I stumbled across your video “Should I Go with Godaddy Website or Go Custom?”. I have created my own website with dreamweaver..however it took me forever because I’m not good with coding at all and I just want something simple and easy. I just got into this whole youtube thing and I wanna make it professional, check out my channel “GoProOutfitter”. I’m looking to make any profits off my website I should want to be able to post all my hunting and fishing pictures and youtube videos. If you could help me out with any information that would be awesome!! Thanks, Caleb

Yeah, WordPress.org is a great place to start. If you don’t code well or at all that would be the place you could get a lot of value. You would have to pay for hosting if you want your own domain name.
If you just want FREE then you need to check out WordPress.com. They create a subdomain for you but you loose customization ability.

I’m hearing both good and bad about it.
So, what specifically are the good and bad features of GoDaddy?
Chris Florence
Great question. GoDaddy has some neat qualities including their 24 hour help desk. My experience is that their platform isn’t intuitive at all. It’s a little dated and they don’t offer CPANEL.
I prefer Site5.com, that’s where we hang our hat.

Hi I have a photography website I just started (or should I say went back to and remade), its address is http://w ww.freewebs.com/stormfreak/ for those who are interested, (just remove the space). Anyhow I was wondering how I am best to go about getting a name for my site, or getting a few members. I am not interested so much in paying for advertising, I am after good free publicity if you have any ideas? Of if you have any feedback on the site (I dont know a huge amount about website building.

May be good for the near term but long term you are going to want a more robust solution. Good for you though in moving forward! You are an inspiration to us all.

I am planning to start a merchant website but can’t decide on a host due to my lack of knowledge of the process. I am thinking of facilitating online transactions and daily maintenance of the site, adding and removing items (by myself). It’s going to be a site for jewelry sale and service and custom making of some items. I am on a budget. The jewelry items are going to be provided by a professional jeweler but I will maintain the site as my contribution in a 50/50 partnership. Which company will be most suited to my purpose?

I have some custom themes i downloaded and uploaded to wordpress.org and i changed the header. I’m trying to upload it to the FTP file manager on godaddy.com (all of my custom themes are there and i am clicking on that specific theme’s image folder) but for some reason it doesnt appear. I’m thinking I am doing something wrong but i am not quite sure what.

I bought my domain name from godaddy but now wish i opened it with a different program. But I can’t make one because I already own the name. How can i cancel it on godaddy to open it and buy it from a different site?
Chris Florence
You can transfer the domain to any other account that you open. You may be required to pay a nominal fee but nothing big. Contact support of the company you want to tranfer the domain to and ask what that process entails.
