Smarter Not Harder: Snip.ly
This is the third and final installment of our Smarter Not Harder series, in which we’re showcasing a few websites that make business life a little easier. The previous articles are focused on a phenomenal graphic design site, Canva, and my virtual social media assistant, Buffer. A website that I use hand-in-hand with Buffer on a weekly basis is Snip.ly.
“Snip.ly is a simple tool that allows you to overlay your own custom message onto any piece of content.”- Snip.ly
It’s extremely important to be a consistent, dependable, and engaging presence online. One way we are able to stay connected with our virtual viewers is by sharing high quality content that is pertinent to our businesses. In a perfect world, we would all be able to simply share what we’ve been posting on our own websites. However, the majority of us don’t have the time to write two to three original articles a day, each featuring relevant information that is pertinent to our businesses and our audiences. Through Snip.ly, we are able to share with our community excellent content from any website, while still bringing attention back to our own products and services. For example, say you own a dog grooming business. You find a delicious doggie biscuit recipe, (not that you tasted it yourself, of course), and you decide to post it to your Facebook page. If you use Snip.ly to bring this recipe to your audience, when they click the link they’re directed to the recipe with an added message from you! This personalized call to action also includes a link that will take the reader back to your own website.
In addition to making all this great content perfect for sharing, there are also several ‘behind the scenes’ features Snip.ly offers that I find to be incredibly useful. On the homepage, or ‘Dashboard,’ your monthly overview is front and center. Snip.ly not only tracks how many people clicked the links we’ve shared, but also the amount of conversions, people who have accessed our website through the ‘snip.’ The statistics that are presented are the number of snips created, clicks, conversions, conversion rate, and clicks used. The free account is limited to one thousand clicks a month. Snip.ly also allows its users to view the statistics on each snip created- which is a wonderful tool to gauge what content is effective in reaching our target audiences.
“Snip.ly is a super neat tool that has helped a lot of marketers get more return on the links they share.”- Kevan Lee, Buffer
Here is how you can start using Snip.ly to increase traffic to your website:
Step One: Check out Snip.ly and sign up for a free account.
Did I already mention that this website is also free! They offer a paid membership, but I have found that the free account is more than sufficient to meet our needs.
Step Two: Find something you would like to share.
In the previous blog, I gave a few examples of the means I use to find content worth sharing. As previously stated, I would suggest sharing information that is not only pertinent but also that relates to your business somehow. For this example, I’ll use this article from careerrocketeer.com.
Step Three: Bring the article to Snip.ly.
Copy and paste the article’s URL into the box at the top of the page that says ‘Enter a URL.’ Click Create Snip.
Step Four: Customize your snip.
This is where you plug in the information that will draw readers back to your website. Keep your call-to-action simple, direct, and appealing. The best taglines bring to light a need that must be met or a question that must be answered. And of course- the solution lies on your specific webpage. Snip.ly even shows us a preview of what the snip will look like.
Step Five: Click Snip.
From here, Snip.ly takes all the information you plugged in, creates the snip, and provides you with a brand new URL.
Step Six: Click Copy and Share.
And it’s as simple as that! You know you’ve successfully copied the URL because the link fades upwards as pictured.
Now you’re ready to post this content on any and all of your social media marketing sites! This is the point where I use Buffer- but I’ll let you read that article for yourself! If you have any questions about any of the websites we’ve discussed the past few weeks, or if you’re interested in hearing how Brandaid can help take your marketing to the next level, we would love to speak with you.
