Boost Christmas Sales With A New Website
Boost Christmas Sales With A New Website
If you’re new to business or have been so busy with your start-up that you haven’t been able to observe current sales trends, then you may not have realized that online sales over the Christmas holiday season are increasing year on year. Being a small business ourselves we know that when your nose is constantly on the grindstone it’s hard to think past what must be done to get through today- let alone analyze that ambiguous demographic you’re trying to attract for tomorrow. However, you should be aware that each year, the share of online holiday business is growing, a trend which analysts believe will continue for the foreseeable future.
If you have a small business, the question you should ask yourself is, “Am I getting my fair share of online Christmas sales?” Maybe you already have a website; in fact, it is virtually certain that you do. In the unlikely case that you don’t have one, the obvious solution, is, build yourself an online presence. There are many companies out these which have free website building services, so be brave, dip your toe in the water and check them out to get your foot in the door. If you do nothing more than this, and advertise your web site locally and on your own social media, (Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest), you will have made a good start. However, for someone who is not tech-savy, these free resources can quickly become confusing and the end results are almost always sloppy and difficult to navigate. Thankfully, you’re not in this alone! Knowing what you’re going through as a small business we’re always here to consult, to develop, and to put your dreams on your screen!
For those of you who already have a website, why consider a new one? After all, that old site has been giving you good service for years now, plodding along, adding a bit of cream to the overall pie. But is that really the best you could be doing? Could a new web site make a substantial difference to your online Christmas holiday, and year round, income?
There is one factor which will make a radical difference and which justifies the building of a new e-commerce site, and that is mobile technology. The majority; yes, the MAJORITY of online purchases are made from mobile devices such as phones and iPads, and this trend is growing. If your site is not optimized for mobile devices you are missing more than half of your potential sales. You may yourself not be using a mobile device to access e-commerce sites, in which case you may not realize that the design of a site which may be being looked at on a three inch screen does have to be radically different from one designed for a PC.
Even if your site is optimized for mobile devices – and congratulations if it is – there is still a good argument for having a brand new web site. Going back to the drawing board for any project means taking a fresh look, and fresh looks can often mean fresh ideas, and fresh income streams.
Just do a little research for yourself. Pick a random selection of web sites in a field similar to yours. For example, if you sell supplies for small scale dairies, check out sites which sell specialist equestrian supplies. (This will allow you to make a comparison without getting lost in over familiarity.) Take a good look at how those sites present themselves. Make notes on what you like and dislike. Imagine yourself as a user of those sites. Which one would get your business?
Then go to your own site, and compare it against your likes and dislikes. Try to stand back and imagine that you are a new visitor. Is the typeface hard to read? Is the navigation confusing? Are the pictures small and indistinct? Do you get a feel for the people behind the business? Importantly, how could it be better?
It’s very hard to make these kinds of judgements for yourself, because you are aware of all the reasons that your current site isn’t the vision of perfection you would like. That’s where we come in!
